Qualicum Beach Sunset

We've had an un-precedented heatwave for the last few days. Staying close home, and we are so fortunate to have air conditioning, but we did go down to the Beach at Qualicum one evening to check out the sunset.

Sundays outdoor temperature was 36.6c.  Monday was our peak in Parksville at 38c

The heat dome is now moving on to Alberta and the prairies, but the knock on-effect is with us...forest fires are springing up, and the snow on the mountains has been melting exponentially, causing flooding in some areas, The chaotic pattern of weather and climate.

Even the deer who are normally enjoying sampling our potted plants, needed to sit in the shade for a while.

Our condo complex is called Quails Landing.  And... here are the Quails of our landing.   They move like lightning, its not easy to catch them to photograph.  They live in the ditch behind the tall grasses that you can see in the background. The young quails were enjoying their walkabout. Love the funny little poof on ther heads.

This one actually flew up to take in the view from he hedge. They are normally ground birds.

And Juni captured a very odd cloud formation one morning, that I have never seen before.

Still snow on Mount Arrowsmith.  This was taken a couple of days before the heat wave hit, so the snow cover is much reduced.

My very first attempt at photographing the moon.  It cooperated by staying quite still for me while I took the picture.

And as usual, I like to end with an eagle photo.  This one was taken today in the early morning and he wasn't trying to hide at all. They rule the skies around us.

  1. 38! Here in southern Catalonia it's been creeping up to the mid-30s in the daytime and we haven't had it quite that high yet. We will! What a fabulous collection of photographs, Colin! Keep them coming! Swithin
