May Notes

It's been a typical May on the island.  Warm days, followed by wet days.

The big news in Vancouver was a major thunder and lightning storm at midnight one day last week, with thunder and 200 lightning strikes.  it's so rare out here that it was the opening news on every TV station, probably because the morning news crews who have to wake up at 3am to get to the studio, all lost some precious sleep.

But we missed it even though we're just about 30 miles away.  And I love watching thunder storms, one of the things we miss from Ontario.

Caught this fellow eating some of our greenery.  Fortunately they get bored  quickly, and just eat a leaf or two and move on.

The geese took their babies for a walk, and as you can see from the following  photos, they grow from little yellow fluff balls into tall teenagers in no time!

I tried to capture the reflection of our surroundings in our glass patio table top.

We went to Nanaimo for the day to start our search for a new set of wheels, and had a pleasant take out lunch with Martin and Juni in their neighbourhood, Departure Bay.  You can see the ferry that goes over to the mainland, a 1 hour 40 minute sailing.

And the following weekend,  we were back in Nanaimo and had lunch with M and J on a pub patio.  A stunningly clear day, with a view down to lake Brannen, with Mount Benson in the background.

And, because it's the long weekend, they've  installed these guardians in front of the BC ferry terminal in Nanaimo to ensure mainlanders stay local for the holiday.
