More birds arriving every day.

This was the week the Canada Geese arrived.

With just a lonely couple of geese for a few weeks, two more showed up, then one day, the whole gang arrived en-masse for the summer.

Then, for two days in a row, we were taken over by a large flock of seagulls. May be 50 or so.  Hard to count when they were flying around! . On both days they showed up about 8am, created confusion and left 10 minutes later.  And have not returned since.

The gulls  are in town for "the big event" in their social calendar, the start of the herring fishing season.  It's important here, for the economy not just the seagulls.  The season opened yesterday. There will be dozens of boats off French Creek and Qualicum Beach.

When the fishing boats raise their nets the seagulls swarm around in their hundreds, stealing fish.  The sea lions also come up,from California just for this feeding event, and move on to Alaska. We hope.  They're not exactly welcome by the locals, and they play havoc  with our other other important industry, scallop and oyster farming. They foul the waters and pass on diseases.

For those curious, here is the machine that dispenses fresh milk at the farm.  They just added credit card payment to the machine which is great because we never have change in the house.

Two more geese to join the first two for a few days.

Seagulls took a tour of our backyard.

And now, the whole gang of geese is back in town

A movie of the seagulls. Turn up the volume, you'll hear a flock if geese flying over too.

A deer wanders by the geese one morning.

A family of deer in a garden on my walk. When they see anyone, they freeze for a long period, because that's their natural defence mechanism in the forest to avoid predators, they don't realize they're not in the forest any more and I can see them..
