Waiting for the snow this past weekend

On Friday we were promised snow on the weekend.

Friday night  was very cold, dropped to -3.5c when I woke.

But Saturday morning was bright and clear.  The snow was still projected to arrive by 3am Sunday  but the big question was,  will it stay on higher elevations  or drop down to sea level.

Went for my Saturday afternoon walk, the brine trucks had been by, the white trails of the mixture showing on the roads. The peak of Mount Arrowsmith was visible just above the low level cloud.

Wispy high level cirrus, the sign of the incoming front, and by 4pm it was clouding over.

But my daffodil stems look cheerful in the sun, some  grasses, rosemary, thyme and sage are still colourful in the late afternoon sun.

Sunday passed with no snow  just a bit of rain in the morning, and gray skies throughout.  Golfers on the course during the day.

Then Monday morning... we received what counts for snow on our part of the island, large wet snowflakes that melted immediately.

One highlight. I saw the first redwing blackbird swaying on a tall reed in the pond.  One by one, the local birds are retuning.

Ok, panic over, back to our normal weather.

  1. It's a lovely time of arrival for the springbirds here in Spain as well...

Your term brinetrucks reminded me of a friend's New Year homemade card a few years back... New Year Grittings... With a sketch of a salt truck spraying!
