This Last Week In January

Tuesday, I went to the library and took the opportunity to walk along the beach.

Our weather was gray and cloudy but across the water, the mainland had a break of sun.   It's hard to see in these photos on my iPhone 6, but the white line is actually the mountains of Garibaldi Provincial Park and Whistler, covered in snow.

Wednesday I walked the railway line to the farm.  Along the way I was following a bird who was also hopping between the rails.  He would let me get close, then he would scurry a few feet further, and we walked together in this way for a minute or so. I thought it might have been injured and couldn't fly but eventually it flew up to a branch.

On my return, he was back on the track and we kept each other company all the way back home!

I also caught an eagle on his favourite perch.  I know, it's pretty small and hazy because it's taken with my iPhone and it's far away, but...I've ordered a telephoto lens from Amazon to fit on my phone, I'm not anticipating a spectacular improvement but I'm hoping to get slightly clearer shots of distant birds

Friday, I went around our local streets for my afternoon walk and decided to capture the colour that's starting to show in the gardens right now.

For the end of January, we're off to a good start!  Heather, shrubs in colour, azaleas in protected gardens are about to open, also I passed a very green palm tree.    I'll do this again at the end of February when spring flowers including daffodils should be in full bloom.
